Description
Coming from the Avia valley, within the Ribeiro appellation, this cuvée is a tribute to biodiversity and the essential role of bees in the vineyard. Produced by the talented Ricardo Perez and the team at Coto de Gomariz, this wine is a pure expression of the Sousón grape variety. The 2012 vintage, now fully matured, demonstrates that Galician reds possess an aging potential and elegance that rival the great European wine regions.
This cuvée is made from 100% Sousón (an indigenous grape variety known for its color and acidity) planted on schist, granite, and clay soils, cultivated according to the principles of biodynamic agriculture.
Fermentation with indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks is followed by aging exclusively in stainless steel tanks for about 4 months to preserve the brightness of the fruit. However, its prolonged stay in the bottle (since 2012) has allowed the wine to develop a fascinating tertiary complexity.
It reveals an expressive and singular bouquet. One can find notes of small wild black fruits (blackberry, elderberry) mingled with hints of licorice, dried flowers, and a ferrous mineral touch typical of the terroir.
On the palate, the attack is lively and dynamic, carried by the natural acidity of the Sousón. The texture is now mellow and silky, offering a perfect balance between ripe fruit and Atlantic freshness. The finish is clean, saline, and highly drinkable.
