Southern Burgundy 2020 - Château des Rontets

The 2020 Bourgogne du Sud from Château des Rontets is a Chardonnay produced from a small plot located on the hillside south of Fuissé, in the heart of the Mâconnais. Planted in 2016, the vines rest on clay-limestone soil, with a thin layer of clay over a stony base set directly on the limestone bedrock. Sheltered from the wind by large trees, the plot enjoys a warm climate that promotes excellent grape ripeness.

Cultivated using organic farming methods, the grapes are hand-harvested and then pressed directly. The juice ferments in large wooden casks and used barrels, followed by an aging period of approximately 12 months on fine lees. The wine is then bottled without fining or filtration, in pursuit of freshness and purity.

The nose opens with notes of ripe peach, almond, and crème fraîche, accompanied by a perfectly integrated woody touch. On the palate, the 2020 vintage is ample and generous, with a very ripe substance that remains balanced by a freshness that extends to the finish. A indulgent and textured Chardonnay, without any heaviness.

A gastronomic white Burgundy that is simultaneously generous, fresh, and delicately woody. It will pair particularly well with roast poultry, fish in sauce, salmon lasagna, or pressed-paste cheeses.
