Domaine Piero Busso: the artisanal excellence of Neive

Located in Neive, in the heart of the Barbaresco wine region, the Piero Busso estate embodies a rigorous and purist approach to Piedmontese winemaking. Founded in 1953 by Piero's father, the estate has established itself as a benchmark thanks to its meticulous vineyard management. Today, Piero, his wife Lucia, and their children Pierguido and Emanuela run the estate with a clear philosophy: to let the terroir express itself without artifice.

A terroir of fine wines and organic viticulture

The estate spans approximately 10 hectares, encompassing some of the appellation's most prestigious crus (MGA), including Gallina , Albesani (Vigna Borgese), and San Stunet . Each plot is cultivated according to certified organic farming principles. Work in the vineyard is meticulous and done by hand, aiming for controlled yields to ensure optimal concentration in the grapes. This attention to the vines is the cornerstone of the estate's wines, resulting in grapes of perfect phenolic ripeness.

Winemaking: precision and minimal intervention

In the cellar, the Busso family favors a minimal-intervention approach to preserve the unique character of each terroir. Fermentation is initiated with indigenous yeasts , and maceration is lengthy, allowing for the extraction of the tannic structure necessary for aging while retaining the fruit's elegance. Aging takes place traditionally in large oak casks, thus avoiding any excessive oak influence. The result is wines of great purity, combining power, mineral tension, and remarkable aging potential.
