Description
The Villa de Corullón 2013 cuvée is produced from a blend of parcels of old Mencía vines (between 60 and 100 years old), located on the steep slopes of the Corullón municipality in the Bierzo region. Driven by Ricardo Pérez Palacios and Álvaro Palacios, the estate applies the principles of biodynamics on particularly poor and rugged schist soils.
The 2013 vintage is characterized by a cooler and wetter climate than average, offering a wine of remarkable verticality and aromatic precision.
Visually, the wine displays a deep, clear, and bright ruby color. The nose is marked by great mineral purity (notes of pencil lead, damp schist) intertwined with aromas of tart red fruits (wild strawberry, raspberry) and dried flowers (violet). The aging, carried out in French oak barrels for about 10 months, remains extremely discreet, simply contributing a light spicy touch and a refined structure.
On the palate, the attack is vivid and taut, reflecting the freshness of the vintage. The tannic framework is of great finesse, almost silky, with medium concentration but persistent intensity. The finish is saline, long, and carried by a vibrant acidity that ensures excellent aging potential. It is a wine that favors elegance and the typicity of the schist terroir over extractive power.
