Suo di Giacomo 2016 - Eugenio Bocchino
Suo di Giacomo 2016 - Eugenio Bocchino
Langhe Nebbiolo - Red - 15.0 % - 75 cL
Eugenio Bocchino and his wife Cinzia Pelazza have been based in La Morra, in the heart of the Barolo vineyards, since the mid-1990s. On their 5.5 hectares of vineyards, divided into 7 plots, they produce several cuvées from the Nebbiolo and Barbera grape varieties on clay-limestone and sandy soils, all worked naturally.
Suo di Giacomo 2016 in homage to Cinzia's grandfather, which makes sense since the cuvée comes from a small plot that belonged to him, and which today Cinzia and her sister Patricia share.
The vines are around fifty years old, primarily Nebbiolo, surrounded by a few Barbera vines. The two grape varieties are harvested and fermented together spontaneously before aging for 2 years in barrels, then 3 years in bottle before marketing.
This wine is almost 10 years old in the bottle, and she's fortunate to have let it rest. Today it develops aromas of fresh, slightly candied red and black fruits. A few earthy and smoky notes are timidly emerging.
The mouthfeel is silky, almost syrupy, with the lusciousness of the fruits, delicate notes of peony and light smoky aromas adding complexity.
