Description
The 2005 Nerosanlore is a great Nero d’Avola by Gulfi, coming from the Vigna San Lorenzo in Pachino, in southeastern Sicily. This plot of old vines, trained as alberello and cultivated using organic farming methods, is located near the sea on red, sandy soils. A terroir that gives the Nero d’Avola an expression that is at once sunny, profound, and surprisingly fresh.
After a long maceration, the wine is aged in 500-liter barrels before continuing its evolution in the bottle. Time has beautifully mellowed the 2005 vintage: the nose now reveals notes of ripe black fruit, violet, spices, licorice, and hints of balsamic, with a lovely tertiary complexity.
On the palate, the wine is ample, deep, and silky, carried by melted tannins and a freshness that perfectly balances its richness. The long, saline finish adds great elegance to the whole.
A superb wine for cellaring, to be served with aged red meat, roasted lamb, game, or mature cheeses.
