Malbec Primitivo 2022 - Morella

The 2022 Malbek Primitivo is one of the most iconic vintages from the Morella estate, located in Manduria, in the heart of Puglia. Founded by Lisa Gilbee and Francesco Brancati, the estate is renowned for its organic and biodynamic farming practices, as well as its dedication to revealing the full finesse of the great terroirs of Salento. This original vintage combines two grape varieties historically present in the region: Malbec and Primitivo, brought together in a blend that is as unique as it is elegant.

Sourced from vines approximately 40 years old planted on red soil rich in limestone and quartz, the grapes are harvested by hand and vinified in small open vats. The 10-month aging process in 300-liter French oak barrels adds complexity and depth while preserving the vibrancy of the fruit.

The nose is intense and expressive, revealing aromas of ripe cherry, plum, blackberry, and dark fruits, accompanied by notes of fresh mint, sweet spices, and a light balsamic touch. With aeration, nuances of cocoa, licorice, and vanilla emerge to enrich its aromatic palette.

The palate seduces with its velvety texture and remarkable balance. The Primitivo brings generosity and indulgence, while the Malbec imparts freshness, structure, and elegance. The tannins are silky, the substance ample yet perfectly controlled, with a long finish marked by dark fruits, spices, and a lovely Mediterranean freshness.

This red wine of character will ideally pair with grilled meats, slow-cooked dishes, lamb, pasta with sauce, or aged cheeses.
