Read 2013 - Eugenio Bocchino

Lu 2013 is one of the finest expressions of the expertise of Eugenio Bocchino, a benchmark winemaker in La Morra, in the heart of Piedmont. Produced in limited quantities and named in honor of his daughter Lucia, this cuvée comes from a rigorous selection of the best Nebbiolo grapes from the historic La Serra and Fossati crus, two terroirs renowned for producing Barolo that is simultaneously elegant, profound, and distinguished.

The 2013 vintage is considered one of the great classic Barolo vintages. Climatic conditions allowed for a slow and steady ripening of the Nebbiolo, favoring freshness, aromatic complexity, and exceptional aging potential.

Cultivated using organic and biodynamic farming, the grapes are vinified according to a traditional approach with a long maceration of approximately thirty days. The wine is then aged for two years in large oak casks, followed by several months of refinement in cement vats before a long rest in the bottle. This method helps preserve all the finesse of the fruit and the expression of the terroir without excessive influence from the wood.

The nose reveals great aromatic complexity, blending red cherry, raspberry, dried rose, and violet. With aeration, notes of eucalyptus, rosemary, licorice, black tea, and sweet spices appear, lending the wine remarkable depth.

The palate is ample, refined, and perfectly structured. The tannins, still present but admirably softened over time, support an elegant structure carried by a beautiful freshness. Flavors of red fruits, aromatic herbs, and spices extend into a long, mineral, and persistent finish. Today, this Barolo is entering a superb drinking phase while retaining the potential for evolution over several more years.

This great gastronomic wine will ideally accompany game, a dry-aged ribeye steak, osso buco, porcini mushroom risotto, or aged cheeses.
