Douro 2008 - Quinta Vale D.Maria
Douro - Red - 14.0 % - 75 cL
The Quinta Vale D. Maria 2008 is made from old vines (over 60 years old) planted in a field blend , a traditional Douro practice that allows for a unique aromatic complexity . The estate, located in the Cima Corgo sub-region, benefits from a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild winters, ideal for ripening the grapes. The schist soils impart a distinctive minerality and an elegant tannic structure to the wines.
Hand-harvested , grapes crushed by foot in granite "lagares" and aged in oak barrels , which brings notes of vanilla, spices and tobacco, while respecting the expression of the fruit.
The nose is intense and complex, with aromas of wild blackberry , black cherry , and plum , accompanied by pepper , licorice , and cinnamon. Subtle notes of tobacco and violet gradually emerge, along with light hints of cocoa and coffee .
Thanks to its prolonged aging in the bottle, the tannins are now very silky but the palate remains intense with candied fruit , licorice, spices and tobacco , all punctuated by a refreshing acidity and some mineral notes.
A great Douro wine at its peak, offering great complexity , very surprising!
