Description
A Second Grand Cru Classé of Margaux in 1855, Château Brane-Cantenac is an iconic estate of the appellation, managed by Henri Lurton. The Grand Vin is sourced from plots located on the famous Brane plateau, specifically on the fourth terrace, composed of gravelly soil with more clay, which gives the wine greater depth, density, and structure.
The 2020 vintage, marked by a particularly hot and dry summer but tempered by cool nights, produced concentrated, perfectly healthy grapes with beautiful acidity. The blend combines 70% Cabernet Sauvignon with 26% Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc, Carmenère, and Petit Verdot. Vinification is carried out in wooden vats, followed by 18 months of aging in new French oak barrels.
The nose is deep and expressive, marked by blackcurrant and dark fruits, accompanied by notes of violet, licorice, graphite, and spices. On the palate, the wine is ample and concentrated, yet retains a lovely freshness. The tannins are fine and silky, with dense matter and a long, flavorful finish.
A racy, precise, and still very young Margaux, it is best to let it mature in the cellar for a few more years.
