Description
The 2016 Château Bourgneuf is a Pomerol from a family estate located on the appellation's famous plateau, near great crus such as Château Trotanoy. The vineyard benefits from terroirs characteristic of Pomerol, where clay and gravel allow the Merlot to develop depth and richness while maintaining wonderful freshness.
The wine is mainly composed of Merlot (85%), complemented by Cabernet Franc, a grape variety that brings freshness, structure, and finesse to the blend. The 2016 vintage, particularly successful in Bordeaux, yielded ripe and concentrated grapes while retaining lovely acidity and a balanced structure.
On the nose, the wine reveals an elegant bouquet of ripe black and red fruits, with notes of plum, blackcurrant, and black cherry, accompanied by hints of violet, licorice, and sweet spices. With bottle age, more complex nuances of forest floor and tobacco emerge.
The palate is ample, velvety, and structured, with fine and already well-integrated tannins. The fruit remains at the heart of the tasting experience, supported by beautiful freshness and a persistent, slightly spicy finish. The 2016 is currently in a beautiful phase for drinking, while still possessing potential for further evolution.
An elegant and profound Pomerol, to be served with a rib steak, duck fillet, rack of lamb, roasted poultry, or aged cheeses.
