Description
The Cepparello is one of the great historic cuvées of Isole e Olena, an iconic estate in Chianti Classico. Created by Paolo De Marchi, it has been produced since 1980 and reflects his desire to showcase the full potential of Sangiovese on the estate’s high-altitude terroirs. Classified as an IGT Toscana, Cepparello is crafted exclusively from Sangiovese sourced from the best parcels.
The 2006 vintage comes from a particularly favorable year, characterized by a hot, dry summer, cool nights, and abundant sunshine. The grapes were harvested by hand, and the wine was then aged for an extended period in French oak barrels. This long aging complements the natural structure of the Sangiovese without masking its aromatic expression.
Today, the nose reveals beautiful evolution: red cherry and raspberry, rose petals, licorice, and aromatic herbs mingle with more tertiary notes of dried fruit, forest floor, tobacco, and cedarwood. On the palate, the wine is elegant and profound, with dense yet silky texture, fine-grained tannins, and vibrant acidity that provides great energy. The finish is long, fresh, and savory.
A great Tuscan Sangiovese that has reached a wonderful stage of evolution, where the fruit is gradually giving way to tertiary notes without losing its freshness. A gastronomic bottle, to be served with a fine cut of beef, game, mushroom-based dishes, or aged pecorino.
