Description
The Balado cuvée is an exceptional single-plot expression from the Salnés Valley, in the heart of the Rías Baixas. This wine comes from two small plots of ungrafted old-vine Albariño, planted in 1950 and surrounded by a granite wall ("Balo" in Galician). Under the expert hand of Eulogio Pomares, the 2017 Balado has established itself as a gastronomic white wine, recognized for its mineral tension and phenomenal aging potential.
Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks, followed by aging on fine lees for 9 months, also in stainless steel tanks.
The nose is of great purity and remarkable intensity. It blends notes of citrus, white fruits, and white flowers. The signature of the terroir is expressed through smoky and stony touches.
On the palate, the attack is sharp and bracing. The wine develops with a silky texture and an elegant concentration. The finish is marked by an intense salinity and a mineral persistence reminiscent of sea spray.
After a few years in the bottle, this 2017 vintage has gained in harmony and complexity.
