Description
The 2000 Amarone from Giuseppe Quintarelli is a monumental work, the result of uncompromising traditional expertise in the heart of the Valpolicella Classico zone. Made from a blend of Corvina, Rondinella, and a small proportion of Croatina and Nebbiolo, this wine is based on a drastic selection of the best bunches. After harvest, the grapes underwent a natural drying process (appassimento) lasting several months, concentrating the sugars, acids, and dry extracts, followed by a slow fermentation using indigenous yeasts and seven years of aging in large Slavonian oak barrels.
To the eye, the 2000 vintage displays a deep garnet color with brick-red reflections, testifying to its maturity. The bouquet is of stratified complexity: it opens with intense notes of brandied cherries, dried figs, and prunes, before giving way to tertiary aromas of blond tobacco, fine leather, licorice, and dark chocolate. A subtle touch of tar and oriental spices completes this nose of rare depth.
On the palate, the wine commands a masterful presence. Despite its richness and alcohol content, it maintains perfect harmony thanks to a silky tannic structure and remarkable acidic tension that supports the whole. The texture is dense, oily, yet remains sovereignly elegant, without any heaviness. The finish is endless, marked by notes of dried fruit and a noble bitterness that characterizes the estate's greatest wines.
